"There are many other Kens to play with"

Ryan Gosling is being hailed for his hilarious comeback after critics said he was ‘too old’ to play the role of Ken. The Barbie film, starring Gosling alongside Margot Robbie, is set to be released on July 21, 2023 in Ireland. While thousands of fans await the film’s arrival in cinemas, some harsh critics have been taking aim at the cast. One of the main arguments is that The Notebook heartthrob, who is 42, is too old to play the love interest of Barbie, played by Margot Robbie, 32. In an interview with GQ Magazine, Ryan was questioned over the comments and his response was brilliant. He told GQ: "I would say, you know, if people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with." Like you ever thought about Ken before this?" Gosling went on to say that the character has always simply existed in a one-dimensional state of being Barbie’s love interest. "Everyone was fine with that, for him to have a job that is nothing," Gosling said. Referencing the critics’ focus on him in recent weeks, he then said: "But suddenly, it’s like, ‘No, we’ve cared about Ken this whole time.’ No, you didn’t. You never did. You never cared. Barbie never fucked with Ken. "That’s the point. If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told."
