Representatives for the actor Taron Egerton have said that he is "absolutely fine" after he collapsed on stage during the opening night of his new West End play. Audience members attending the production of Cock were left concerned after he fainted in the Ambassadors Theatre in London. A number of reports say that one of Taron's co-stars stopped the performance and the safety curtain came down. A doctor in the audience then attended to him. The show then had a 40-minute break and director Marianne Elliot appeared on stage to reassure the audience members. She told them that Taron was "absolutely fine", and his understudy, Joel Harper-Jackson, stepped into his place and the performance resumed. A statement from the play addressing the issue read: "During this evening’s first preview of Mike Bartlett’s play Cock at the Ambassadors Theatre, Taron Egerton fainted towards the end of the performance. "A doctor who was in the audience attended to Taron immediately after the incident, and whilst he felt fine, it was decided that Taron’s understudy, Joel Harper-Jackson would continue in the role to complete the performance" The play is written by Mike Bartlett and also stars Jonathan Bailey, Jade Anouka and Phil Daniels. An official synopsis for Cock reads: "John (Jonathan Bailey) is happy in himself, and with his boyfriend (Taron Egerton), until one day he meets the woman of his dreams (Jade Anouka). "In a world full of endless possibilities why must we still limit ourselves with labels?" As well as starring in Elton John biopic Rocketman, Egerton kicked off his acting career on the stage. In 2012, he appeared in The Last of the Haussmans at the Royal National Theatre, and the following year he played Tommy in No Quarter at the Royal Court Theatre.
