Charlie Bird has taken to Twitter to thank two strangers after they came to comfort him while he was doing his grocery shopping in Dublin. While out in the Dunnes Stores in Cornelscourt on Wednesday, Charlie said he had an "awful crying moment" and got emotional when two women came to his aid. Charlie explained that the crying moments he experiences are a symptom of is Motor Neurone Disease and that the "hand of friendship” helped him a lot this time. In a post on Twitter, he wrote: “This is a difficult tweet for me to send, but I want to thank the two ladies who comforted me in Dunnes Stores in Cornelscourt this afternoon. “I was having one of my awful crying moments, which is a symptom of my MND. The hand of friendship helped me so much.” The former RTE presenter recently discussed out he had been "really struggling" the last while and admitted that this time last year when he was diagnosed, he didn't think he'd see his 73rd birthday, which is tomorrow. https://twitter.com/charliebird49/status/1567585907745738757 Now looking forward to Christmas and seeing both Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band next year, he said: "I am really struggling at present and emotionally. This time last year I didn’t think I would make my 73rd birthday but just over a week to go I will. “Roll on Christmas and Brucie thanks everyone the love is amazing." Charlie also thanked anyone who has been "extending the hand of friendship” as he noted that on a recent trip, he and his wife Claire were shown so much kindness that he was brought to tears. He said: "Sometimes I wish I had a camera with me. Claire and Tiger and I are taking a break and everywhere I go the kindness I am being shown by strangers is amazing, sometimes I end up crying but they are tears of joy."
