Cameron Diaz was incredibly honest about getting older

But sometimes we have to wonder if we're doing all of this because it feels good or because we feel the pressure to.

There's no doubt that celebrity culture and social media have had an impact on how we view ageing. Many of us believe that remaining frozen in time is better than ever showing a single wrinkle on your face.

TikTok is full of comments about how well actresses like Anne Hathaway, who is only in her early 40s, have aged, but that's because she hasn't had time to. She's still incredibly young yet society's opinion of her is so patronising.

People were stunned to find out that Nicola Coughlan was in her late thirties and acted as if she had told the world she was actually a 101-year-old witch and not a young Irish actress.

The obsession with ageing and looking a certain way is draining and Hollywood doesn't help with every other celebrity getting filler, Botox and any other procedure that'll keep them looking young.

If that makes them feel better then good for them, but the impact it has on society and the beauty standards it causes is concerning.

Thankfully, there is one actress sharing some reaffirming advice when it comes to ageing.

Cameron Diaz says we need to stop obsessing over how we look

Actress Cameron Diaz has often spoken out about ageing and why she doesn't think about her appearance as often as society wants her to.

The Holiday star said she doesn't want to focus on how she looks, but how she feels.

She told Michele Visage, "The last thing I think about on a daily basis, maybe not at all during the day, is what I look like.

"It’s toxic. It’s like, ‘Why am I sitting here being so mean to myself? My body is strong; my body is capable, why am I going to talk down to it when its carried me this far?" Diaz shared.

Diaz had some pretty stern advice when it came to avoiding self-criticism.

"Stop looking in the mirror and stop talking selfies," the actress stressed.

She said getting older is something she's embracing with open arms and not something she's trying to dodge.

She told Harper's Bazaar: "I have no judgments about anyone’s personal journey, but for me, I just want to take what the ageing process gives me.

"I’m not sure the pressure today to stay looking young is any different than it always has been, but it’s very much in-your-face now, no pun intended. But with social media and all the ads for procedures and new technology always coming out… and things are more affordable now than they used to be, so maybe that’s creating more pressure."

Cameron Diaz is completely right with her refreshing honesty about ageing.

Why do we care so much about how we look when our bodies are already doing so much for us? Shouldn't we focus on that rather than beating ourselves up over minor wrinkles and the odd patch of acne?
