Today we caught up with Caroline Brady who works for Dublin start up company Pointy. They've created an app that's helping people find everything and anything they're looking for in their local shops.
We gave it a try earlier this year, and it was really impressive, so we decided to ask Caroline Brady, Product Guru at Pointy a few questions about her work.
Caroline was attracted to Pointy as she had just moved to Dublin and wasn't familiar with the area she was living in. The thought of a company that could make her life a little bit easier was an exciting prospect.
We asked her about what her role in the company is, and her (very fancy) job title of Product Guru.
"My job is to make sure all of the products go up on the Pointy app and that they are searchable for users. I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting products and spend loads of time making sure we're up to date with all the latest trends."
Brady is the sole woman on a staff of seven, and she has a lot of different duties to carry out, from product integration to creating a marketing campaign. The small nature of the team means that she's learning new things every day, and it keeps things interesting.
We asked Caroline has she any advice for women who want to pursue a job in tech, and she made the point that (while necessary for some positions) you don't always need a background in engineering or computer science to work in the industry.
"From marketing and sales to legal and operations management, there are so many job opportunities in tech. It's a booming industry that needs a good mixture of males and females."
My hope is to see as many people, both retailers and consumers, making the most of Pointy. For me the best part of Pointy is that it directs you to a physical shop where you can see your products before you purchase them - I like to be able to test out my foundation in the shop before I buy it and make sure the colour and consistency is right for me. I hope to continue with the fun of learning new things as Pointy develops and expands.
