Whatever your skin type, there are some golden rules you should be following to make sure yours is in tip-top condition. We’ve paired up with skincare experts VICHY for a series of guidelines for different skin types… first up, oily skin.
_____________________________
1) Don’t over-clean. Oily skin needs cleansing, but not any more so than any other skin type. Twice a day with a mild water-based cleanser is fine, and remember that really stripping the skin will exacerbate the problem, as the skin will be stimulated to produce more oil.
2) Don’t skip the moisturiser. Your skin still needs the product for hydration, but a particular type. Opt for light, easily-absorbed formulas instead of heavy creams, and choose oil-free formulas.
3) When applying makeup, prep your skin first. Using a primer will help everything stay put, particularly on areas where your skin is especially oily, like the T-Zone. Use after cleansing, and before makeup.
4) Don’t go too heavy-handed with powder. It might seem like it should help, but this can actually stimulate your skin to produce more oil. A good skincare routine is the key, not masking the problem with makeup.

5) When shopping for makeup, look for cosmetic products that are oil-free and non-comedogenic, so they won’t clog up your pores. Don’t let your skincare products do all the hard work only to undo it again with your cosmetics routine!
6) Your sunscreen should be an essential part of your skincare regime, but again it’s important to opt for an oil-free formula.
7) You are what you eat. Your skin type can be in part hereditary, but environmental factors also come into play. Eat a balanced diet and get plenty of fresh air and water to give your skin a healthy glow.
