A new apprenticeship with a leading Irish virtual reality developer could give you a head start.
VRAI, an Irish company that creates VR solutions for the likes of Samsung, the ESB and the UN, has teamed up with not-for-profit organisation FIT to fund the country's first ever women-only tech apprenticeship.
Apprentices will earn while they learn; getting educational training at Liberties College in Dublin as well as on-the-job experience working for a participating business.
The best part? It's open to pretty much anyone. Applicants must be over 18 and have a basic Leaving Cert with Maths and English, or its equivalent.
Over 117,000 people work in STEM in Ireland, according to the CSO, but just 25 per cent of these are women.
"We hope to provide opportunities to women who want to be in tech, but who have never had the opportunity to pursue it," said VRAI Managing Directors Niall Campion and Pat O’Connor.
Women must be given opportunities regardless of their background, added Caoimhe Doyle, Senior UX Developer at VRAI.
"That’s why it’s so important that this is a paid apprenticeship with broad minimum requirements. Our most valued skill in VRAI is a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, if that sounds like you, you should apply."
