Somehow, it's September and time for a wardrobe refresh. With sunny afternoons giving away to cooler evenings, we'll be picking up a few new bits and bobs - just not from the usual high street spots. A new season is the perfect opportunity to try out vintage fashion if you never have before. Daunted? Don't be. Shopping second-hand might take some getting used to but it's beyond worth it, not just for the planet but also for the amazing, one-of-a-kind finds you'll come out with. Here are three major trends that you'll be happy you got vintage rather than brand new.  

70s-style leather jacket

Give your leather biker jacket a break this season and pick up some outerwear that wouldn’t look out of place in a retro cop movie. All the high street stores are awash with 70s-esque leather and faux-leather blazers right now but we guarantee you’ll find the real thing (much nicer, less plastic-y looking) in vintage stores and on sites like Depop.  

Oversized shirts

Masculine tailoring in women’s fashion isn’t going anywhere so if you haven already, it’s time to buy a big button-up. Whether it’s a grungy flannel or a crisp white shirt you’re after, the men’s section in any decent vintage store should have plenty of options.  

Shoulder bag

If early 2000s fashion is your thing, we’re sure you’ve been on the hunt for the perfect shoulder bag this year. This is where your local second-hand shop will come in handy. Though certain pieces are easier to find in dedicated vintage stores, charity shops tend to be full of fun pre-loved bags that’ll cost you a few euro at most.
