A teenage model who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome has made history after she walked on the runway at New York Fashion Week. 14 year old Monika Myers always loved to do her hair and make up growing up but for a lot of people her age, they do this in their bedrooms and not at one of the biggest events in fashion. Going from her bedroom in Toronto to the runway, the Canadian native signed with the international model agency Zebedee and went on to make history. Monika was inspired after she saw other models with Down syndrome and took up modelling herself, going on to take part in different fashion shows. Becoming the first Canadian model with Down syndrome to walk at Toronto Kid's Fashion Week, she went onwards and upwards at New York Fashion Week. Picked to walk for Primark and high-end dress designer Wanda Beauchamp Couture, there was no stopping her as she hit the runway. Becoming the first model with Down Syndrome to walk at New York Fashion Week, Monika is now paving the way for others like her. Posting a snap of herself at the Primark show, she wrote: "What an honour to walk the runway for PRIMARK in NYFW on Saturday. It was such a great experience- thanks for believing in me TesStylist and choosing me to be a part of it!!" In August she walked in Toronto Kids' Fashion Week, making her first historic moment, and writing about the experience, she penned on Instagram: "I was so honoured to be the first model in Canada with Down syndrome to be in Toronto Kids Fashion Week TKFW! Thankyou to all my wonderful family and friends who came to support me!"
