Nicholas Ghesquiére Nicholas Ghesquiére was appointed as creative director of Balenciaga in 1997 at the tender age of 25. He made such a success of this that he was brought in to head up Louis Vuitton last year. His early collections included high-necked dresses, batwing tops and big-shouldered jackets and his perfectly tailored pieces soon won him praise from industry insiders. Speaking to Vogue in 2005, the designer said that he was eager to marry both a successful business with experimental trends, something that not all designers believe is possible. New York Fashion Week If you've an interest in style, chances are you've heard of the fashion weeks that take place biannually in New York, London, Milan and Paris. The first New York Fashion Week, then called Press Week, was held in 1943 during World War II. It was hoped that holding the event in New York would encourage designers to go to America as travelling to Paris during wartime was too dangerous. The plan worked and American designs started to regularly feature in Vogue. Maybe you dip in and out of fashion week shows in a bid to see what will make it to the high-street the following season or perhaps you're full on obsessed with every look, designer and model that strolls down the catwalk each season. Net-a-Porter Luxury online retailer Net-a-Porter was launched in June 2000 by Natalie Massenet. Oh, if only money grew on trees...! Nino Cerruti Nino founded couture house Cerruti in 1967. The label has always been known for its classic wool suits, and has launched separate collections for both men and women over the years. However, despite the initial success of the company Cerruti went bankrupt in 2004. It was sold to private equity firm Malin-Paterson in 2005. Valentino designer Aldo Maria Camillo was named Cerruti's menswear designer in 2012. London-based designer Richard Nicholl headed up Cerruti womenswear until the brand closed this department in 2011.
