Rihanna's dress was rather revealing but ensured that people were talking about her.
During her acceptance speech later that evening, Rihanna explained: “I grew up in a really small island and I didn’t have a lot of access to fashion but as far as I can remember, fashion has always been a defence mechanism.
“I remember thinking ‘she can beat me, but not my outfit’”. (Perhaps this is why she chose such a daring dress for the occasion.)
Other celebrities who were at the event included Emmy Rossum, Blake Lively, Olivia Wilde and the Olsen twins.
