Do a double take if you must, for this is not quite the kind of catwalk you’re used to seeing…
As NYFW runs on and all the beautiful people are stateside enjoying fashion Christmas, we must contain ourselves by drooling over the snaps. So far, we’ve been hugely impressed by Richard Chai, DKNY and too many more to mention, but we’re giving a shout out to Tommy Hilfiger for this especially eye-catching, fun and colourful collection.
It’s only a few weeks ago we took a look at some of the brand’s winter offerings, which we rated as a rather ‘cool’ departure from the designer’s norm. It’s still very much preppy and collegiate style, but recent seasons have introduced an edge to the ethos that keeps this long-established all-American company on the lips of the fashion community.
For his Spring/Summer 2014 show at Lincoln Centre, Tommy pulled out all the stops. With the catwalk swapped out for a faded boardwalk, the emphasis on fun in the sun was obvious from the outset.

The man himself... Tommy can still bring it.
It was less Big Apple and more California Girl, echoed by the strains of the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Californication signaling the start of the show.
Minidresses, zip skirts, shorts and scuba knits walked the runway in a kaleidoscope of colour. Neoprene was a big part of the story, sitting seamlessly alongside knits and silks. His n’ hers style saw stunning female models walk the runway in basketball vest style dresses, while the coloured pants with paneling, referred to by the designer as “scuba jeans” just served to remind us all of the days when the height of teen fashion were Susst and Nope pants.
It was one of the most colourful and fun shows to show at NYFW yet this week, high praise when the week as a whole is pretty exceptional so far.
Have a flick through the gallery above for some of the best looks, direct from the catwalk.
