Fashion Christmas, aka New York Fashion week, kicked off in earnest on Thursday with some of the world’s most beloved designers showing their Spring 2014 wares on the famous Lincoln Centre runways.
While we’re just beginning the autumn/winter shop and contemplating retiring our sandals for another year, the great and good of the fashion world are already spreading the word on what we’ll all be coveting next summer!
Each day for the duration of Fashion Week, we’ve paired up with our friends at Maybelline to give you an in-depth look at one remarkable runway. We’re kicking things off with Richard Chai…

The Show
Chai recently spoke of his inspiration for his new collection to WWD, using the term ‘Soft geometry’. On the catwalk, red and white geometric patchwork patterns and stripes graced silk dresses, shirts and trousers. The traditional ‘florals for spring’ made an appearance by way of a gorgeous poppy print. Mixed fabric pieces and a smattering of sequins hardened up some of the softer looks, while for the menfolk oversize was the name of the game. Have a flick through the gallery above to see the show.
The FROW
Christina Ricci and Louise Roe were two of the famous faces in the FROW, but in a twist from the norm it was the male guests who garnered most attention at this NYFW show. Pop princes the Jonas Brothers sat between Star Trek star Zachary Quinto and Colton Hayes of Teen Wolf fame.

The Face
The “Soft geometry” ethos was echoed in the makeup look for the show. Maybelline makeup artists complimented the unexpected combinations of structured pattern and softness within the collection, with makeup artist James Kaliardos giving models a minimal makeup look with an “androgynous, futuristic” feel. He created perfectly polished skin using Dream Fresh BB Cream and Dream Lumi Concealer, and then strategically placed highlights using Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Barely Branded to give faces a futuristic glow. Lips were treated to Color Whisper in Bare to Be Bold topped by Color Elixir in Nude Illusion.
