Why are weekday weddings so popular?

We're all too aware of how expensive weddings can be, but we're now sacrificing annual leave so we can attend these celebrations.

Don't get me wrong, I'd happily take a string of days off work so I can drink prosecco, get dressed up, and see my friends have the happiest day of their lives.

But others may not be able to take time off as easily.

The main reason weekday weddings are becoming more common is simply down to costs. It'll come as no surprise to learn that getting married on a Wednesday is cheaper than a Saturday, but is it worth the inconvenience?

Gone are the days when people only got married on a Saturday.

It's a wedding tradition that's going out of style, but some people now miss that trend.

According to Hitched, the most popular date for weddings this year is Monday, September 23rd.

The team at Hitched also confirmed that Tuesday has seen the biggest growth in popularity with a 42% increase.

Are weekday weddings unfair?

Her.ie readers recently opened up about attending weekday weddings with many admitting it can be unfair.

One said, "I would if it's for someone I really love. I'd definitely take the time off but it also depends on how much time I have left off to take that year.

"I always forget to take my vacation time so I think a wedding is a really good excuse to take it," one added.

"Definitely if it is a close friend but you only get a certain amount of annual leave, so it would depend on how close I was with the person," another admitted.

Another agreed that they'd definitely consider it but only if they are really close to the couple.

Others had no issue with taking time off but it also depended on how much annual leave they had left.

Weekday weddings can be pretty great because you're not only getting time off work, but you also still have the entire weekend to look forward to.

Plus, if it makes the celebration more affordable for your loved ones then are they really so bad?

Weddings are already a major expense for the couple so this makes their day that little bit less stressful.

Personally, I think taking a couple of days off work for the big day is a privilege for many but if you can afford to take the time off then why not?
