A woman has survived a one mile fall from an airplane after her parachute failed to open.
The 30-year-old, who is an experienced sky diver, plunged almost 5,000 feet from the aircraft to the ground below after her parachute - and emergency parachute - did not deploy.
She crashed into the trees near the skydiving centre in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, suffering several fractures and broken vertebrae.
Her life is not thought to be in any danger.
"It's a miracle," witness Denis Demers told Radio-Canada. "I don't know how a person can survive a fall from an airplane like that."
Another witness said she was waiting to board a different sky diving plane when she saw the woman fall.
"We watched all the way to the end," she said. "We kept hoping something would happen. We were very worried. Very."
Quebec are now investigating to see if there is any criminal negligence.
The sky diving company has yet to comment on the incident.
