A woman who stabbed her three-year-old son to death in their Dublin home has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Maha Al Adheem stabbed her son, Omar Omran, in their Kimmage home in July of last year.
The doctor, originally from Kuwait, told Gardaí that she had stabbed her son when they arrived at the scene.
RTE reports that a jury of nine men and three women reached a unanimous verdict of not guilty by insanity today.
Two consultant psychiatrists had told the court that Al Adheem had been suffering from paranoid schizophrenia in July 2017, and that she would not have known that her actions were "morally wrong."
Al Adheem was ordered to go to the Central Mental Hospital today. She will appear before the court again tomorrow.
