An American woman has posted a video on Facebook showing the moment her mother was attacked and robbed by a man on a Dublin street.

Noreen Northrop, an Irish dancing teacher from Kansas in the US, was visiting the capital at the end of June with her dancing team, who were taking part in the World Irish Dancing championships. Noreen's daughter Holly has uploaded a video to her Facebook account showing her mum's dancers doing an impromptu jig on Dublin's Abbey Street while waiting for a bus to collect them. A group then approaches the dancers, and at first they look harmless, and even take part in the dancing for a while as passersby stop and record them. Holly's Facebook post explains what happened next:

“They seemed harmless until the man in the black hoodie stole her phone, and moments later as the video ends two others in the group assault her, leaving her with a fractured elbow, sprained wrists, damaged ribs, bruises so deep that you can still see them today [13 days later].

"But more than that a fear that may never go away. For those of you that know my mum she is a sweet and strong woman and seeing this and how it has affected her breaks my heart. The names of the people that did this are still not known even though their faces are right here. If you have any idea who they are please reach out to me. Please share and help us find out who they are”

Holly told Her.ie that the man that stole her mum's phone spoke to her first. "She said it looked like the kids were having a grand time, and when he took her phone said he was 'just messing' even when she had asked for it back," Holly explained. "He said it a few times before he ran. One man did try to run after the boy in the black hoodie, but he could not reach him. Many people helped her after she had been tripped and pushed."   Holly said her mum reported the attack to the Gardai, who met the group at their hotel to take statements. "She's far from okay, but she is doing better," Holly said. "Since she was leaving early the morning after, she waited to see a doctor upon arrival in the US. She will find out this week if the left knee will need more treatment."
