A weather warning has been issued for 17 counties in Ireland

A status yellow wind warning has been issued in 17 counties in Ireland. Met Éireann says that it will be gusty with gale force winds and scattered showers covering the country for most of the day. The first wind warning came into place at 1am this morning in Donegal, Galway and Mayo. The weather forecaster said: "Southerly winds gradually veering westerly during Tuesday will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 110km/h, strongest near coasts and about high ground." Meanwhile, the second warning, which has been issued in Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo came into place at 6am. "Southerly winds gradually veering westerly will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 100km/h at times during Tuesday."

Both weather warnings will be in place until 8pm tonight. Despite the wind warning, it will be a bit warmer today, with temperatures reaching up to 14 degrees. "Windy today with strong south to southwest winds, reaching gale force along west and northwest coasts. Later in the day, southwest winds may reach gale force in inland parts as well. "Overall dull with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Mild for the time of year, with afternoon temperatures ranging 11 to 14 degrees."

While tonight we're going to see winds easing off and a few dry spells. "The winds will gradually moderate tonight and become westerly. It will become largely dry as well with clear spells. Lowest temperatures will be between 3 and 6 degrees."
