The bodies of two British tourists were found on the island of Koh Tao in Thailand this morning, and a murder inquiry is now underway on the island. The tourists have been described by police as a 23-year-old woman from Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and a 24-year-old man from Jersey in the Channel Islands. They were found with gruesome head wounds in the early hours of this morning. Colonel Prachum Ruangthong said the victims' clothes and a hoe covered in blood stains were found nearby. Locals have told the police that there was a party last night near the scene with about 50 people in attendance. According to Sky News, the pair were staying in a bungalow nearby. Police have cordoned off the area and are continuing to review CCTV footage from last night and the early hours of this morning. The Foreign Office released a statement today which read: “We are aware of the death of two British nationals on 15 September on the island of Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. The Embassy are urgently seeking information from the local authorities and stand ready to provide consular assistance as needed.” The idyllic island, which is located 250 miles south of Thai capital, Bangkok, has been a magnet for British and Irish tourists over the last few years, with many tourists stopping there to partake in dive courses at the resorts.
