Heart-breaking news coming in from County Mayo this morning.
We reported earlier this morning that a
rescue operation was underway following an incident where a car became submerged in water in County Mayo.
Following extensive searching by Gardaí, the fire services and the Coast Guard, two men have been reported missing. Both are reportedly in their late 20s.
The incident happened in a river just outside Louisburgh in the early hours of December 25.
A third man, reported to be in his late teens, managed to escape from the vehicle and search for help. All three of the men involved are believed to be from the area.
It's understood that the men were travelling close to a bridge over the Carrownisky River when their SUV entered the water.
Gardaí, the Coast Guard and fire service personnel are still on the scene, believed to be 4km outside of Louisbergh.
