Northern Ireland's Secretary Brandon Lewis welcomed the update in the case.

Two men have been charged with the murder of journalist Lyra Mckee who was shot dead in Derry in 2019. The 29-year-old journalist was observing riots in the Creggan area of the city when she was killed. The group that calls themselves the New IRA was responsible for her death. The men who have been charged with her murder are aged 21 and 33. They have also been charged with arson, possession of petrol bombs, possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life. The older man was also charged with robbery. Additionally, a third man was charged with the possession and throwing of petrol bombs and riot. The three men are due to appear before the Derry Magistrates Court this morning. He continued: "This was an utterly senseless and shocking crime and I applaud the continued work of the PSNI to bring those responsible to justice. "The fact that serious charges have been brought forward, which includes two individuals being charged with Lyra's murder, is to be strongly welcomed and is a testimony to that hard work." Mr Lewis also thanked the PSNI as well as the security partners for their role in the operation. Another man, Paul McIntyre, 53 from Kinnego Park in Derry has already been charged with the murder of McKee.
