Travis Scott has donated his merchandise profits from a recent Alabama gig to Planned Parenthood. The artist said during the 2019 Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores that he wanted to give all of his merch profits to the family planning organisation. Alabama legislators passed a law last week making abortion illegal in all circumstances except where there is substantial risk to the life of the mother. The move, which will come into effect in 2020, has been widely criticised for putting women's lives in danger and doctor's professions at risk. “I wanna donate my net profits from my merch today to Planned Parenthood,” Scott said during his performance on Friday. “We feel for those in Alabama. I love you all. I just want everyone to know that love is the strongest thing that we can have. So to anyone out there - man, woman - I wanna dedicate this song to you.” Scott's girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, also publicly denounced the law last week. Sharing a photo of the men who voted in favour of the law, she said that the image "makes me sick." She also posted another image detailing some of the men's comments about rape saying: "Ummm.... I'm scared." Women in Alabama who procure abortions next year will not be held liable for doing so, but doctors who perform the procedure could go to prison. Alabama is one of many US States trying to overturn Roe v Wade, the landmark legislation that made abortion legal across America in 1973. President Donald Trump has expressed his concern for the new law, stating that he is "... strongly Pro-Life, with the three exceptions – Rape, Incest and protecting the Life of the mother – the same position taken by Ronald Reagan." Abortion is set to become illegal after six weeks gestation in Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Ohio in 2020.
