Shimon Hayut, who conned numerous women he met on Tinder, has returned to Instagram to defend his actions.
Shimon's criminal activity is at the centre of the Netflix documentary film, The Tinder Swindler, which has attracted a huge audience in the past week.
In it, we hear from three of the women he conned after meeting them on Tinder. Shimon pretended to be the son of an Israeli diamond merchant, and bought the women expensive gifts and took them on lavish trips. He then convinced them to hand over large sums of money after claiming that he couldn't access his own due to various security risks. It's estimated that he stole up to $10 million from his victims.
Shimon was eventually sent to a Finnish prison for fraud, theft and forgery, but only served five months, and was let out due to "good behaviour".
After his release from prison, Shimon continued to share photos of what looked like a very lavish lifestyle. He deleted his Instagram last week, after promising to tell his side of the story, and he returned to the social media platform yesterday.
As NME reports, Shimon took to his stories to defend himself.
He wrote: "If I was a fraud why would I act on Netflix I mean they should have arrested me when we were still shooting (....) It’s high time the ladies start saying the truth. If you can’t give them world they’ll turn yours to hell."
Shimon then claimed that he would be "addressing the world" this Friday.
He added: "Say my name #Simon Truth".
The update from Shimon comes just days after Tinder issued a statement claiming that he has been officially banned from using the dating app.
In a statement to Variety, the company said: "We have conducted internal investigations and can confirm Simon Leviev is no longer active on Tinder under any of his known aliases."
