Met Éireann has published a thunderstorm warning for 11 counties as torrential conditions head our way.
The Status Yellow warning is in place for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford.
According to the Irish forecasters, it is valid from now (14:22) until 21:00 on Tuesday evening, July 4.
Met Éireann noted that there is a "moderate chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening with a possibility of hail."
They also warn the public of spot flooding in places, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
The forecast for today states that widespread showers are due this afternoon, “some heavy or prolonged with spot flooding”.
Isolated thunderstorms and hail are also possible, particularly in the Leinster and east Munster areas.
Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees are expected, with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.
Tonight, heavy showers will arrive in the southeast but they will clear early in the night.
“However, further light showers will spread from the Atlantic over the west of the country, but turning largely dry with clear spells in the east,” the forecaster says
Lowest temperatures will fall to between 6 and 11 degrees, in light west to southwesterly winds with a few mist patches in places too.
