The majority are in Dublin.

To date, there are 120 released sex offenders living across the country who are currently under supervision as part of their release programming. This is an increase of 6% on 2016. There are laws in both the US and UK which allow parents to ask whether or not someone who lives close to them has a record for child sex offences. Sadly, no such law exists in Ireland yet regarding Gardaí giving out information of freed sex offenders. According to the Independent, figures released state that the majority of released sex offenders are living in the Dublin north and north east area. There are 32 living in Dublin's northern areas while another 24 are living in the Dublin south and Wicklow area. Another 23 released sex offenders have addresses in the west and north-west and there is just one sex offender less living in the midlands and south-east. The figures were released by Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan and were issued in a written Dáil reply to queries raised by Fianna Fáil's justice spokesman Jim O'Callaghan. Further figures released by the Irish Prison Service show that there has been a small increase in people jailed for sexual offences. At the end of May, there were 394 sex offenders jailed, which is an increase of eight since March.
