Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party has explicitly promised to keep blocking the legalisation of marriage equality in the country.
Although the Assembly backed equal marriage in a vote last year, the DUP used peace process powers to override the democratic process and block equality yet again.
Their new leader Arlene Foster obviously seems committed to denying LGBTQ people in Northern Ireland their legal right to marriage, with their manifesto clearly reading:
“The DUP has stood by its commitment to family values and marriage and will continue to do so.”
A spokesperson for the DUP stated:
"The party supports the traditional definition of marriage of one man and one woman, and we have voted along those lines many times."
A young man, Darragh Tibbs aged 15 made this heartfelt video plea to his local DUP representative, asking why his parents, a same-sex couple, are not viewed as equal in the country they live in.
His representative did not respond to the video.
