TG4 launched its autumn schedule in Dublin this morning with many of the station's stars, including station regular, Hector Ó hEochagáin.
All eyes are on Irish language programming recently with the global success of An Cáilín Ciúin, which received an Oscar nomination earlier in the year, so viewers of the autumn schedule on TG4 will be looking for that exceptional Irish creativity in their favourite shows. It was announced that TG4 will expand its offering with the launch of a new dedicated children’s channel, Cúla4, on 8 September, as well as a TG4+1 channel. Director General of TG4 Alan Esslemont said: “I would like to thank Minister Catherine Martin for her support for TG4 in a year, through An Cailín Ciúin, when Irish language creativity has achieved a global platform of appreciation.“TG4 has a key role in supporting the Irish language within the wider Irish society and for the community of habitual Irish speakers. TG4 also plays an important and growing role as a public service broadcaster at a time when the needs of the values of public service within the broadcasting ecosystem are increasingly evident,” he concluded.Some of the highlights among the documentary series’ coming this autumn on TG4 is Rúin na bPortach, which is a series about the bogs and peatlands of Ireland and the world, as well as Misneach, a documentary series that explores the stories of people and communities who have faced challenges in their lives.For history buffs, Rún na Bóinne sees award winning journalist Seán Mac an tSíthigh and a team of leading international scientists undertake an epic quest to uncover the location of a long suspected second chamber at Newgrange, and for romance lovers, Scéalta Grá na hÉireann is back with six captivating historical love stories. Entertainment wise, Hector is back with Hector – Ó na Philippines go dtí na Solomons, where the presenter goes on an amazing trip travelling deep into Southeast Asia passing through the Philippines into Malaysia and Singapore across the Indonesian islands of Java and Bali before crossing into the Pacific islands of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. As usual, sports fans will be well looked after with exclusive live games on GAA Beo, with games from the Allianz Leagues, the club championships, Ladies Football, underage grades as well as second and third level available to watch.
