Two boys are being charged with recklessly beating and killing the animals.

Two teenagers have been charged over an alleged attack that left 14 kangaroos dead in a coastal Australian town south of Sydney. The 17-year-old boys were arrested after police found the bodies of the eastern grey kangaroos at Batemans Bay on Saturday. New South Wales Police said they found twelve dead adult kangaroos and two dead joeys spread across two locations in the town. Both teenagers are being charged with recklessly beating and killing the animals. A female joey is the only survivor of the deliberate and brutal mass killing. "It is a tragic and senseless act that has left an indelible mark on our dedicated Mid South Coast branch volunteers who attended the scene, as well as the local residents. A single surviving joey was located nearby on Saturday morning by a member of the public. She has been aptly nicknamed ‘Hope' and is now in care with local WIRES member Shelley. The teenagers will appear at a children's court on 22 November.
