A lucky escape.
Callum Keane, a 16-year-old boy from Navan, has been hailed a hero and credited with rescuing two young boys from the Boyne river yesterday evening.
The 16-year-old went into the river close to Swynnerton Lodge after seeing the two younger boys, aged 11 and 12, were in difficulty.
A woman rang Meath River Rescue after she saw the two in trouble and chairman of the rescue, Christopher Rennicks, said the woman stayed on the phone to him and saw the teenager jump in to help them.
When Mr Rennicks arrived at the scene Callum had got them to safety on the other side of the river.
According to
RTE the chairman of Meath River Rescue, Christopher Rennicks, paid tribute to the teenager but added that their advice is to always stay away from the water and the situation could have been a lot worse
"He is an amazing chap to do what he did.Our message to everyone is to stay away from the water, it is too dangerous. It could have been a lot worse."
Callum's mother said she's very proud of him and delighted the two boys were safe. The boys were taken to hospital to check they were alright but were later released.
