While we've had another mild winter across the country, with only Storm Barbara briefly threatening to keep us out of the pub, we're in for a far colder start to 2017 from New Year's Day onwards.
Today - which is Friday, for anyone in a state of permanent confusion given the time of year - will be relatively mild across Ireland with only a touch of patch drizzle.
New Year's Eve will start off dry and mild but showers will spread to the north and north-west and turn heavy there in the evening.
Then things will get properly wintry.
New Year's Day will start off cold and get even colder, with bright conditions giving way to showers of sleet and snow in the north and easy, especially on higher ground.
Monday will bring cold, frosty and wintry conditions - especially in the north and north-west - although the midlands and south should remain dry and very cold for the most part.
