Irish Paralympian
Róisín Ní Riain finished in 6th place in the SB13 100m backstroke final at the games in Tokyo this morning.
The Limerick swimmer, who made her debut yesterday, delivered an impressive time of 1:08:06, a brand new personal best for the rising star. She was less than .1 of a second off from fifth place.
US swimmer Gia Pergolini came in first, setting a new world record for the event. Italy's Carlotta Gilli took the silver medal and Katja Dedekind of Australia nabbed third place.
16 year-old Róisín secured her place in the final after delivering
a new personal best in the heat this morning.
Ní Riain came third in her heat with a time of 1:09:23.
After her
fantastic heat, the swimmer said: "I’m happy with it, I think it’s the fastest I’ve ever been. It’s a PB, and that’s always good and hopefully I can improve on that this evening."
