Eight people including six off-duty PSNI officers have been released on bail pending further investigations following an incident outside licensed premises in Portstewart, County Derry.
According to the
Mid-Ulster Mail, detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime have undertaken an investigation after three people were sent to hospital and treated for minor injuries following the attack in the town.
According to reports, the police are investigating the possibility this incident was in fact, a hate crime.
Chief Superintendent of the PSNI Gerry Eaton stated that they are conducting an internal investigation as the PSNI: '
"...expects its officers and staff to behave professionally, ethically and with the utmost integrity at all times. Any deviation from those standards is unacceptable and we are committed to ensuring that where officers and staff fail to maintain the high standards expected of them they are dealt with appropriately.”
