Prince Charles later paid a public tribute to Ashling, saying her "name will not be forgotten".

Prince Charles and Camilla met with the family of Ashling Murphy on Friday as part of the royal couple's State visit to Ireland. The trip saw the royals visit Tipperary, where they spoke privately with Ms. Murphy's parents, siblings and boyfriend at the Brú Boru Cultural Centre in Cashel. Ashling, a 23-year-old primary school teacher, was killed while out jogging along the canal bank at Cappincur in Tullamore, Offaly in January. As well as being a teacher, Ms Murphy was a talented musician and had performed in the Cashel venue. During a public speech later in the theatre, Prince Charles paid tribute to Ashling and said he was "touched" to meet her family. "With profound sorrow and sympathy, perhaps I might be permitted to pay tribute to Ashling Murphy, whose name will not be forgotten, who was taken from us far too soon and who I know was a friend to many here where she performed," he said. "My wife and I were so enormously touched to have been able to meet her family who I know are with us here today. "Our most special heartfelt thoughts are with them."
