The famous music store is to close its doors on George’s Street.
First opening its doors to customers back in the early 90s, Waltons music shop in Dublin City Centre has become an iconic musical landmark in the capital – and not just for customers.
The shop received international recognition after it appeared in the Oscar-winning film, Once, back in 2007.
Yes, the shop was the backdrop for the famous scene in the film which starred Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova as they practiced one very special song.
That song eventually went on to take home the award for Best Original Song at the Oscars.
The owners shared the news of the store’s closure through their website, saying:
“Yes, times are changing and we must change with them”.
The music shop will now relocate permanently to its new premises in Blanchardstown. And while the George’s Street store might be closing, the Waltons New School of Music, which is located above the original premises, is staying put.
