The Prime Minister urged others to follow the example of a little girl who cancelled her birthday party.
Good Morning Britain viewers are expressing their outrage after Susanna Reid read a letter sent by Boris Johnson to a little girl applauding her for cancelling her birthday party during the pandemic.
Just yesterday,
reports claimed that the UK Prime Minister celebrated his birthday with an indoor gathering in June 2020 despite a ban on indoor mixing.
Number 10 has refuted the claims, insisting that Johnson attended the gathering for "less than 10 minutes". This morning, however, the
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick confirmed that there would be an investigation into the Downing Street parties.
In the letter read on TV this morning, Boris writes: "Dear Josephine, Happy Birthday!
"I am glad to hear you are staying at home, though I am sorry to hear about your party. We have all got to do our bit to protect the NHS and save lives, and that is exactly what you are doing, so well done! You are setting a great example."
He continued: "We are working around the clock to keep people safe, and if we work together, we can send coronavirus packing. And once we have done that you can DEFINITELY have a party with your friends."

Boris subsequently shared the exchange on Twitter and wrote: "Josephine sets a great example to us all by postponing her birthday party until we have sent coronavirus packing.
"Together we can beat this. In the meantime let's all wish her happy birthday (twice) whilst washing our hands."
Viewers took to social media to express their frustration with the PM following the most recent claims.
One said: "Yet another party Work/Birthday/Leaving do and the list goes on."
Another wrote: "I lost my daughter on the 12th of May 2020, she was 39 her funeral was on the 8th of June, we were allowed 10 people, no wake to celebrate her life, none of her friends and most of our family were not allowed to come. I will never forgive this government."
