A 23-year-old man in the Dominican Republic died after drinking an entire bottle of tequila for the sake of a bet.
El Universal has reported that the man was offered roughly €579, or 12,531 pesos, to down the whole bottle. After finishing his drink, Kelvin Rafael Mejia was promptly paid his money. Tragically, he later collapsed in the bathroom of the nightclub and was pronounced dead.
The entire scene of Mejia drinking the bottle was captured by many club-goers on their phones, adding a macabre twist to what is a very sad and cautionary story.
El Universal further reported that the bet was actually Mejia's own idea, and that he approached a table of strangers drinking tequila to make the offer. Sadly, the bet backfire and had tragic consequences for the young man.
The story definitely serves as a reminder and to drink responsibly, no matter how much money is on the line.
