A man has died and another is in a serious condition following a road traffic accident in Cork on Friday morning.
The head-on collision occurred when a 4x4 and a van struck each other on the M8 motorway at around 11.30am.
Gardaí are at the scene in Rathcormac and have confirmed that a man in his 70s - the driver of the 4x4 - has died.
The van driver is in his 20s and he is in serious but stable condition in University Hospital Cork.
Southbound traffic is being diverted away from the site of the crash; it is expected that the road will remain closed for the rest of the afternoon into this evening.
