A 53-year-old man has reportedly been arrested in connection with an investigation into the death of a woman in Westmeath.
According to The Westmeath Examiner, Brigid Maguire was found dead at her home in Ballynacargy in Co. Westmeath at approximately 9.30pm on Saturday night.
A number of searches were carried out throughout the county by Gardaí, with a door to door inquiry completed in the village.
A man has subsequently been arrested as part of the investigation into the death of the mother-of-two and has been brought to Mullingar Garda Station for questioning.
The close-knit community is in shock following the incident, with local TD Robert Troy stating: “She was an honest, decent hard-working woman, who worshipped her kids.
“She was a good mother and worked hard to provide for her children, and it is a tragic loss of life at such a young age.”
Gardaí have appealed to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity on the main street of Ballynacargy between 5pm and 9pm on Saturday evening to contact them at Mullingar Garda Station on 044 93 84000.
