A man in his 50s was arrested on Wednesday for causing criminal damage to the headstone of former Irish Taoiseach and President Eamon de Valera at Glasnevin cemetery.
Gardaí say that officers from Mountjoy attended an incident of criminal damage to De Valera’s headstone at the cemetery at approximately 3.30pm on Wednesday afternoon.
A man in his 50s was arrested and charged in connection with an investigation into the incident; he is due to appear before Dublin district court on Thursday morning.
De Valera, a key figure in the independence movement in Ireland, served as Taoiseach from 1957 to 1959 and as President from 1959 to 1973.
He was buried in Glasnevin cemetery following his death, aged 92, in 1975.
