On Sunday evening, a young man was charged with the 2013 murder of Dundalk-based Garda Adrian Donohoe.

Aaron Brady, who is 27 and is from New Road, Crossmaglen, in Co Armagh, had been questioned in custody since February 25 following his arrest in Dublin. He appeared in Dundalk District Court at 8pm on Sunday; he is the first charge in connection with the shocking death more than five years ago. A second man in his 60s was released without charge. https://twitter.com/rtenews/status/970407510002814981 Garda Donohoe was aged just 41 when he was killed in the line of duty at the Lordship Credit Union in Bellurgan, near Dundalk, on January 25, 2013. He had been on a cash escort at the time and was shot dead. Gardaí have made thousands of enquiries and have viewed more than 20,000 hours of CCTV footage as part of their investigations into the killing. A total of 88 members of An Garda Síochána have died while on duty since the founding of the State - the most recent of which is Garda Tony Golden who died attending a domestic dispute in Co Louth in October 2015. Aaron Brady was remanded in custody and will appear at Cloverhill District Court by video link next week.
