Tragic.
A lonely, sad duck is seeking a companion after a bobcat ate its mate.
And yes, you did read that correctly.
The duck, aptly named Yellow Duck, has been quite sad as of late - primarily because its best friend and confident was recently eaten.
The duck's owner, Chris Morris from Maine, became acutely aware of the fowl's depressed state and decided to take matters into his own hands.
By creating a lonely hearts ad for the duck.
The Bangor Daily News reports that the special education teacher made the 'Duck seeking duck' advert with entirely genuine intentions - and that he has already had some interest.
"Duck seeking duck," reads the ad.
"Lonesome runner duck seeks companion. Partner recently deceased. Serious replies only."
A woman named Sadie Greene has been in contact with Chris with some information around a duck that she thinks might just fit the bill.
The pair (the humans, not the ducks) arranged a meeting for over the weekend.
We can only desperately hope that it went well.
“We will try to create a mood, maybe set them up on a date," said Chris. "It is possible they might attack each other. We don’t know."
“I think we have to provide a private, romantic space for them, something they can share. Yellow Duck’s favourite food is a slug, so maybe we can set up a nice little plate for them.”
Incredible scenes.
Best of luck to all involved.
