Great news broke the evening as it was confirmed a federal judge ordered that Dassey be released from custody.

The news has been celebrated by fans of Making a Murderer and naturally all eyes turned to the shows defense team; attorneys Jerry Buting and Dean Strang. As the news broke, Buting took to Twitter to express his joy.

And while Steven Avery's fate still remains unknown, creators of Making a Murderer confirmed that they would continue producing the documentary. Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi, stated that they are gathering new evidence with the view to producing further episodes. Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, Ricciardi said: “I think today marks four weeks since the series launched and what we’ve managed to do in the past four weeks is have several phone calls with Steven Avery which we have recorded with an eye toward including them in future episodes,” “As we said before, in relation to this story, this story is ongoing, these cases are open," said Demos. "It’s real-life so you don’t know what’s going to happen. If there are significant developments, we will be there. And we are looking at other stories, as well.” Netflix chief content editor Ted Serandos confirmed his interest in pursuing a second series. "The story is still unfolding, so we'll certainly take a look at it” he said.
