An Irish woman has been killed in a bus crash in Dubai.
17 people died when the bus collided with an overhead road sign at approximately 6pm local time yesterday.
Transport company Mwasalat said that the bus was carrying 31 passengers along the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road when the incident occurred.
RTE reports that among those dead are one Irish person, 11 Indian nationals, two Pakistani nationals and one Omani.
An official cause of the accident has yet to be determined, however local media has reported that the bus driver attempted to avoid a height restriction sign which then cut through the roof of the vehicle.
Local authorities offered their "sincere condolences and sympathies" to the families of the victims in a statement yesterday.
"Sometimes a slight error or negligence during the driving of the vehicle leads to dire consequences," they said.

The bus company also issued their own statement following the "unfortunate traffic accident."
"Mwasalat family expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured," it reads.
"Mwasalat has paid great attention to the incident immediately on receipt of news and has been in direct contact with the competent authorities in Dubai to look into the incident."
