Ever feel like it costs you a lot just to get by in Ireland?
Well, you're not wrong — particularly in contrast to many of the other nations in the European Union.
The findings of Eurostat's most recent survey on food, beverages and tobacco prices has revealed that the price of alcohol in Ireland is 75% higher than the EU average. This is the highest price level in all of the EU.
Elsewhere, the United Kingdom is the most most expensive country in the union for tobacco.
In all four categories (food, non-alcoholic beverages, alcoholic beverages and tobacco) one country was cheapest: the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Overall, Ireland wound up as the seventh most expensive country, coming in behind Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Austria. Ireland was also joint-third in the specific market of fruits, vegetables and potatoes.
