A woman has been injured following a fire that took place at a domestic residence in Kerry on Friday, 16 September. Gardaí received a call at approximately 9.20pm, with the initial report indicating a smell of smoke coming from the property. Upon arriving at the scene, Gardaí did not initially observe any obvious signs of a fire. However, once they reached the back of the house, they could see smoke billowing from a window. According to Gardaí, there was reason to believe the homeowner was inside, so an attempt was made to enter the premises. Efforts to gain entry via the front door proved unsuccessful. A small window was then smashed and Gardaí managed to unlock the door. Upon entering the smoke-filled building, four Gardaí discovered a woman lying on the floor, conscious but motionless. The woman was lifted from the floor and taken outside where she received medical attention. The woman, who is aged in her 60s, was taken to Kerry University Hospital to receive treatment for her injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening. The four Garda members who responded to the incident also received medical treatment, with two of the personnel having suffered smoke inhalation. All four have since returned to work. "Gardaí on a daily basis show selfless bravery and dedication to keeping people safe," said Superintendent Flor Murphy. "I have no doubt without the quick thinking and bravery of my colleagues Garda Meaney, Desmond, Moynihan and Finnegan that there would have been a tragic outcome to this incident. I am proud to work with these dedicated Gardaí."
