So day two of counts is drawing to a close and things are starting to take shape.
It's been a short but eventful campaign for the 32nd Dáil, with Fianna Fáil's shock comeback the talking point of the nation.
With only 28 seats of 158 left to fill, here's the seat breakdown so far.
Fine Gael - 42
Fianna Fáil - 38
Sinn Féin - 17
Independents - 15
Labour - 6
Anti Austerity Alliance/People Before Profit - 5
Independent Alliance - 4
Social Democrats - 3
Green Party - 2
Renua - o
Other - 0
The final results are not expected until Monday, but with Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil neck and neck, it remains to be seen whether or they can form a coalition government.
Meanwhile Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has insisted his party will not move to form a coalition with the main parties.
He said: “We aren’t going to go in there (to government) and betray our electorate and betray the other people who need a progressive government. We are not going to go in and prop up a regressive and negative old conservative government, whatever the particular party political complexion".
