GK Barry has taken on a new role – as Gillette Venus’ Chief Pubic Officer – after research revealed that more than eight in 10 women suffer from post-shave pubic irritation.
The study of 2,000 women found 86 per cent have been left feeling uncomfortable after shaving ‘down there’, reporting issues including itchy skin (51 per cent) and a rash (37 per cent). However, half of those polled admitted they use the same razor for their intimate area as they do for the rest of their body.
As a result, Gillette Venus, which commissioned the research, has teamed up with GK Barry in the unique new role of Chief Pubic Officer to help women put the "itchy era" in the past.
And there was no beating around the bush for the presenter and social media star when she took to the streets in Shoreditch’s BOXPARK to ask passers-by about their typical grooming routines.
GK Barry said: “I’m buzzing to be Venus’ Chief Pubic Officer - what a role! Queens, we’re all doing it and we all know that post-shave itch feeling so it’s time to do something about it and enter our smooth era.
"I’m a pretty open book, but even for me, chatting about what happens down there can feel intimidating but it shouldn’t have to.
"I’m genuinely obsessed with the new Venus range and the difference it has made - my pubes say thank you! Give it a go gals - it’s giving smooth”
It comes after the research also found 81 per cent of Gen Z women say post-grooming irritation impacts how they feel throughout the day. With 63 per cent saying it makes them feel uncomfortable and 74 per cent admitting it leaves them feeling self-conscious.
The One Poll research found 41 per cent of Gen Z have needed to scratch their pubic area during exercise, while 44 per cent have had the urge at work, and 35 per cent awkwardly while on public transport.
With the post-shave itch and irritation still being one of beauty’s most common (and least talked-about) frustrations, Gillette Venus has launched a new and improved Intimate Range designed specifically for the pubic area, where skin is more delicate, and hair is coarser and grows differently.
This latest launch introduces a routine designed specifically for pubic hair and skin, featuring redesigned tools with a shorter, lighter handle for greater control and a built-in anti-irritation barrier to protect the skin from ingrown and bumps. The regime comes complete with a full range of dermatologist-tested intimate skincare products, PH balanced and specifically designed for the pubic area.
Serena Gosling, Senior Brand Manager at Gillette Venus, said: “We are so excited to be teaming up with our Queen GK to help normalise the conversation around pubic shaving.
“For years, women have had to settle for shaving products that are not designed with their pubic area in mind, leading to discomfort, itch and irritation.
“We’re asking women to demand more for down there and use a razor specifically designed for the thicker hair and thinner skin of the intimate area.”
