Gap is moving on.
Gap has revealed some very upsetting news, they are closing all their stores in the UK and Ireland.
The high street staple announced that all stores will be gone by the end of 2021, turning completely to their online market.
Making the company an online only store, the brand says they will be closing stores "in a phased manner", starting at the end of August up until the end on September.
They added that they will be providing "support and transition assistance" to all employees after the closures, but are yet to say how many people have been affected by this.
Gap stores have been all over Ireland since 2006, with six stores in Dublin, Limerick and Cork, with 81 stores in the UK along with those.
In a statement, Gap said: “In the United Kingdom and Europe, we are going to maintain our Gap online business.
“The e-commerce business continues to grow and we want to meet our customers where they are shopping.
“We’re becoming a digital first business and we’re looking for a partner to help drive our online business.
“Due to market dynamics in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, we shared with our team today that we are proposing to close all company-operated Gap Specialty and Gap Outlet stores in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland in a phased manner from the end of August through the end of September 2021.
“We are thoughtfully moving through the consultation process with our European team, and we will provide support and transition assistance for our colleagues as we look to wind down stores.”
This isn't the only store that has shut its physical stores, with Topshop making the move online to Asos, and Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Burton all closing their UK stores.
