Have you purchased anything containing DNP?

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland this month put out a recall on all weight loss capsules containing 2,4-Dinitrophenol (DNP). This comes as the Food Safety Authority have found that the pills have contributed to a number of fatalities.

This week the Food Safety Authority posted on their website that no one should consume any weight loss products containing DNP;

"2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) is a highly toxic industrial chemical with legitimate uses, but it is not intended for human consumption. DNP is a yellow powder, often put into capsules before being sold to the consumer as a fat loss aid. Following an intelligence led investigation by the FSAI, in cooperation with other State agencies, a quantity of capsules containing DNP were seized. These capsules were made available via the website www.FatBurney.com "

    The Food Safety Authority website went on to say that 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) has been abused as a ‘fat burner’ to achieve rapid weight loss through accelerating the metabolism. Its use has serious and unpredictable side effects, with a number of fatalities recorded. They have asked that no one buy or consume any DNP capsules obtained via this website or any associated social media site. The Food Safety Authority website does not state if those that may have already bought these pills should throw them away or report and possible send them to the Food Safety Authority.
