Echoes of a Royal Wedding
Rumour has it Taylor Swift is eying up one designer in particular to make her royal wedding fantasy come to life.
It is believed Taylor made a swift stop in London to film a music video for Elizabeth Taylor, track two from her album The Life of a Showgirl.
However, one anonymous source alludes that the singer's visit had another purpose, namely, meeting with Givenchy's Creative Director Sarah Burton.
The tip was submitted to Deuxmoi with the creative subject line 'tailor', and it read: "The most talked about bride to be will be wearing Givenchy by Sarah Burton to her wedding."
Now, Burton is no rogue choice, as the English designer has created some major gowns throughout her career, such as the stunning wedding dress the Princess of Wales wore on her wedding day to Prince William.
That royal wedding was viewed by an estimated billion people worldwide, making it arguably the most visible wedding gown of the 21st century.
Kate Middleton’s wedding dress set the tone for bridal trends in the years that followed, and Swift’s gown will likely have a similar impact once people catch a glimpse of her walking down the aisle toward Travis Kelce.
"Givenchy will have a boom in ready-to-wear, Sarah Burton-era McQueen will boom for people who shop resale, and whatever silhouette Taylor wears will immediately be offered by all the high street-esque bridal brands," says Lizzie Wheeler, the vintage bridal expert and founder of Studio Dorothy.
"I’m already getting sourcing requests for more Sarah Burton McQueen bridal looks, so this will cement her again as a bridal powerhouse."
Ever since Taylor announced her engagement to professional American football player Travis Kelce, the internet has been in a nonstop frenzy, speculating about who the singer will choose to design her wedding dress.
Theories range from an Old Hollywood look à la Elizabeth Taylor, to a fairytale style reminiscent of her early career, or even a more seductive, showgirl-inspired glamour in keeping with the tone of her latest album.
Even though Sarah Burton is rumoured to be the lucky designer chosen to create Taylor’s dress, several other names also come to mind as potential candidates.
There’s American style icon Ralph Lauren, for instance, given that Taylor wore a Lauren design in her engagement photos, as well as Oscar de la Renta, who has been behind some of her most memorable red-carpet looks.
While many expect Swift to choose an American designer for her big day, fashion insiders and royal watchers alike agree that Burton would be a particularly fitting choice.
"Sarah Burton is an incredible designer who really knows how to work with a woman’s body to make her look and feel her best whilst incorporating clever historical couture details and techniques," says Telegraph Fashion Director Bethan Holt.
"Few know this better than the Princess of Wales, who took something of a risk opting for Burton to create her royal wedding gown, eschewing a more classic bridal designer.
"Taylor does seem to have taken inspiration from the Princess in the past, so it wouldn’t be surprising if she consulted Burton for her own gown, which will be as closely scrutinised as a royal commission. Now that Burton is at Givenchy, there will be an archive of designs for Audrey Hepburn to consult, too," Holt adds, per Grazia.
